Open Access & Article Processing Charge

General Information on Healthcare Open Article Processing Charges (APC)

Healthcare Open publishes all its articles in full open access, meaning unlimited use and reuse of articles, in addition to giving credit to the authors. All of our articles are published under a Creative Commons (CC BY) license.

Authors pay a one-time Article Processing Charge (APC) of US$ 500 to cover the costs of peer review administration and management, professional production of articles in PDF and other formats, and dissemination of published papers in various venues, in addition to other publishing functions.

Please note that the option to process an advance payment remains but does not guarantee acceptance of manuscripts. There are no charges for rejected articles, no submission charges, and no surcharges based on the length of an article, figures or supplementary data. Some items (Editorials, Corrections, Addendums, Retractions, Comments, etc.) are published free of charge.

Submitted papers should be well-prepared, with good English and clear figures. Authors should resolve issues prior to publication, e.g., in response to reviewer feedback, or risk delays and even rejection. For authors who need editing services to enhance the quality of their manuscripts, Healthcare Open Author Services offers professional English, Figure Editing and Scientific Editing services as a separate subsided service for Healthcare Open submissions.

Waiver and Discounts on APC charges

Healthcare Open is committed to supporting the transition of all research to fully open access, therefore we regularly offer APC waivers or discounts. On average, we waive/discount approximately 25% - 30% of our content every year. Of the total APC, we waive and offer discounts ranging from 15% to 50% depending on the supporting evidence provided by the corresponding author to show inability to pay the APC charges. In many instances we waive 100% of the APC for experts that have been reviewers of at least 5 Healthcare Open manuscripts in a continuous period of 12 months.

Who can request an APC discount or waiver for open access articles?

  • Corresponding authors can write to the Editor in Chief through the email address: editor@ijnahs.org to provide substantial reasons and evidence to support the reasons for requesting the waiver.
  • It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to clearly communicate the reasons and generate the evidence to support the reasons. Healthcare Open is unable to list all the reasons and evidence that can be used as a basis to request a waiver.
  • The final decision of the editorial team regarding the waivers or discounts of APC is not subject to appeal or revision.
  • The editorial team communications regarding denial and approval of waivers or discounts will only be communicated to the corresponding authors.
